TAIHAPE GARAGE DESTROYED BY FIRE
THE BRIGADE POWERLESS TO SUBDUE FLAMES NINE MOTOR-CARS LOST (Special to THE SUN.") TAIHAPE, To-day. An outbreak of fire occurred at an «Erly hour this morning, when the ftink GarTtfre, owned by Mrs. M. J. O’Connor and occupied by Messrs. Smith and Walker, was totally destroyed by fire. Upon the arrival of the fire brigade the flames had a particularly strong hold and there was no possible chance of saving the building, which was originally a social hall. It was being used by Messrs. Smith and Walker as a parking place for motor vehicles. As a result of the fire the garage was nothing but charred remains and nine motdrs were totally consumed. The cars were second-hand and pri-vately-owned, a few of them being covered by insurance. The building was insured, but the amount of the insurance is at present unavailable. The origin of the outbreak is a mystery, but it is thought the fire commenced in the rear of the garage.
