LESS MONEY PASSES THROUGH THE TOTE
AVONDALE ONLY INCREASE FIGURES FOR THE SEASON Patrons of the totaHsator are being careful this year. For the present year the sum of £2,492,132 10s has passed through the totalisators of the racing and trotting clubs of the Auckland province. THIS shows a falling off of £472,439 10s compared with last year. The Auckland Trotting Club’s winter meeting has yet to be held, but it is not expected that this meeting will show an increase. The total figures for racing and trotting to date fpr **ie three seasons are: 1924-25, £2,819,047; 1925-26, £2,964,572 and 1926-27 (unfinished) £2,492,132 10s. The decline at Ellerslie this season amounts to £101,237 10s, which is the largest falling off of any of the clubs. For the two meetings at Takapuna there was a decline of £45,496 10s. Avondale w r as the only club which showed an increase. This amounted to £8,866. Altogether the followers of racing in the province invested £1,860,487 this season as compared with £2,128,690 10s last season. There is the same story of less investments among the followers of trotting, though the final figures are not yet complete. The five country trotting clubs had £138,378 invested in them this year compared with £162,325 last season. So far this season £296,632 10s has been invested at the two trotting meetings in Auckland. compared with £467,381 30s for four meetings last year.
