THE SOCCER CODE

SELECTING THE N.Z. TEAM AUCKLAND COMPLAINS At a meeting of the Management Committee of the Auckland Football Association held last evening, Mr. A. Menzies presiding, a letter was received from the New Zealand Football Association asking whether the players, Innes, Tinkler and Garrett, would be available for inclusion in the team to play the Canadians in the first test match at Dunedin on June 25.

According to Mr. Wilkes it appeared that the sole selector for New Zealand, Mr Salmon, had ignored the Auckland selector, Mr. Neesh a m. T o choose players from Auckland for the New Zealand team without first conferring with the lo-

cal seelctor was not, in keeping with the resolution carried at a meeting of the

New Zealand Council, which stated that the sole selector would be required to confer with the district selectors in the selection of the teams. It was decided to write to the New Zealand Football Association, as the Auckland selector had not not been

consulted, inquiring into the method of selection of the three mentioned players.

OVERWHELMED CANADA BEATS MARLBOROUGH Press Association. BLENHEIM, Tuesday. The Canadian Association football team beat Marlborough by 11 goals to 0 to-day. The game was played in showery weather, but in spite of the greasy ground and heavy ball the visitors gave a bright display of scientific football. They completely outclassed the youthful home side, which lacked aggressiveness and combination. Marlborough held the visitors fairly well in the first quarter, but the home goal was subjected to a succession of hot shots, many of which Beirne, the goalkeeper, stopped well. Turner (3), Pogson (2), Thomson (2). Archibald (2), Williams and Mulligan scored for the Canadians.

“EXCUSE ME, SIR!”

SOCCER PLAYER PROTESTS A BREEZY INTERLUDE TT appears that there are still A players with a “temperament” playing Soccer in Auckland. At the meeting: last night a Northcote second division player named : Scholes was on the mat before the Management Committee for alleged ; violent conduct in the game on Satur- ; day against Newmarket. The accusation was he had jumped at an op- 1 ponent after having been previously ! warned. Scholes (to the chairman): Excuse' me, Sir, I don’t know where the pre- ( vious warning comes in. Referee Crocker: In the first half Scholes deliberately ran and jumped at a fellow. I blew the whistle and said. ! “Now cut that out. It is too dangerous, and I warn you.” In the second half 1 saw him jump at the small of a man’s back and I ordered him off. “Through the chair, please, gentlemen,” said the chairman as both the referee and Scholes took part in a little wordy conflict. Scholes: Excuse me, Mr. Chairman. I don’t care if I don’t play football any more, but I would like to say right here that that referee is wrong. Mr. Menzies: You should withdraw those remarks. Scholes: I jumped on the small of no man’s back. I jumped for the ball the first time and missed it, but the second time I got it. —Exit Scholes. A member stated that in his opinion the player was taking a very high and mighty attitude, and should be suspended for the season. It was finally decided to suspend him for one playing Saturday. —Enter Scholes. “Righto! Mr. Chairman: • thank you,” said Scholes when he heard the decision.
