FLOOD WATERS DRIVE PEOPLE TO HILLS

NEW DANGER IN ARKANSAS RIVERS RISE AGAIN By Cable. —Press Association. —Copyright NEW YORK, Monday. Some of the farmers in the eastern part of Arkansas, who were engaged in the work of rehabilitation were again driven to the hills by fresh floods. These now threaten to devastate the country of Crittenden. Residents who recently abandoned the mountain relief camps in which they had been confined since the outbreak of the recent floods have made striking progress toward reconstruction. Now, however, the impending torrent, which is the result of the overflowing of the four largest rivers in the State, threatens to drive upwards of 20,000 of them back to the hills. Trouble had been feared for the past few days owing to the torrential falls of rain. For that reason the workers engaged by the Department of Com merce remained in the vicinity. All the streams in Arkansas are now practically in flood again. The authorities anticipate that at any moment there may be further breaks in the levees and a consequent reflooding of the adjacent lands.—A. and N.Z.
