MOUNT ALBERT PROGRESS

NEW COUNCIL CHAMBERS An important event in the history of the Mount Albert Borough will take place on Saturday afternoon next, when the Hon. G. J. Anderson, Minister of Labour and Mines, will officially open the new municipal building in the New North Road. For many years the old wooden structure at the corner of New North Road and Argyle Street has served the borough as its municipal offices, but, with the growth of the borough, it has become inadequate for the volume of work now performed by the town clerk’s department, with the result that the handsome new building, built of brick and concrete, has gone up on the other side of the road. The structure which has just been completed is quite an architectural asset to the district. It was designed by Mr. D. D. Patterson, and built by Mr. W. E. Johns. On the ground floor will be housed the town clerk and his staff and the inspector, and upstairs will be the council chamber, the engineer’s room and committee room. All ratepayers and residents of the district have been invited to the ceremony, and the three members of Parliament whose electorates touch Mount Albert have also been invited to attend.
