CITY FIRES
LITTLE DAMAGE DONE SUSPECTED INCENDIARISM A call by messenger to 22 Hepburn Street was received by the City Fire Brigade at 6.20 last evening. The outbreak was confined to the chimney, and no damage was done. The building consists of seven flats, and is owned by Mrs. Martinengo. At 7.5 p.m. an alarm was given by a passer-by, who saw signs of fire in the factory on the corner of Cross Street and Belgium Street. The brigade quickly extinguished the blaze, one corner of the building only being damaged. The factory, a singlestoreyed building, is owned by Messrs. J. Patterson and Son, coachbuilders. The insurance on the building is for £IOO, in the Alliance Office. An outbreak at 76 Grey Street was the cause of another call at 9.56 p.m. Fire had broken out in an unoccupied three-storeyed house owned by the Salvation Army. A stairway at the back was badly damaged, but the flames were soon checked. The cause of the fire apparently was incendiarism. Insurance figures are not known, since the policy is held in Wellington.
