Chamtaloup, of the Auckland Motor Union, sees for motor-car thefts. He declares that restricted expenditure hampers the efficiency of the police because they are not allowed to use police machines in chasing stolen motors. A traffic inspector had not the same authority as the police, but the police could not cope with the question without motor-cycles. Members of the Wellington Automobile Union, where the subject wa* discussed, advocated legislation imposing imprisonment for the wrongful conversion of cars.
