Dr. Ep Neale, secretary to the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, has be “ questioned by the Auckland Manu facturers’ Association. The lecture was delivered a t W.E.A. class cn Saturday evening J subject being "The History and gress of Immigration.” Mr. B. Buttle pointed out at a meeing of the Manufacturers' Associatin' yesterday that Dr. Neale's remark would prejudice the association's cam paign in support of New Zealand-made goods. Coming from a paid office, of the Chamber of Commerce, the doe trines that the Dominion was not fiU tined to become a great manufactnr ing country and could not absorb many immigrants seemed rather ont of place. In support of Dr. Neale, members pointed out that he had a right to ei press his beliefs in his private cab acity. He had not delivered his lei ture as secretary of the Chamber o' Commerce. It was then decided to adopt the suggestion of the president, Mr. J C. Allum. to ask Dr. Neale if his remarks had been correctly interpreted and if he affirmed them to point out that it was unwise to base such state, ments purely upon theory.
