RUGBY IN THE PROVINCE
NOTES AND NEWS During the progress of the Technical Old Boys-Ngaruawahia Rugby football match at Hamilton on Saturday, W. Mitchell was badly hurt in a loose scramble. He was admitted to the Waikato Hospital in a semi-conscious condition, and is understood to be suffering severely from concussion and shock. It is believed he received a kick on the jaw, but the exact nature of his injuries is not yet ascertainable. Mitchell is a fine player and represented Waikato last season. The first round of the Rugby football competition at Hamilton has ended and the teams are in an interesting position, with City and Old Boys level in I the lead on the points table. The defeat of Old Boys by City on Friday changed their prospects. Frankton notched another win on Saturday, when they defeated Huntly by 12 points to 3 in a scrambling game, and are now two points behind the leaders; while Technical Old Boys scored their second win this season by inflicting defeat on Ngaruawahia by six points to three in a gruelling same.— SUN correspondent.
