A WORLD RECORD BY TE AROHA COW

RESULTS OF HERD-TESTING 'J'HE supremacy of New Zealand as a dairying country has been ilustrated by the results of herdtesting carried out by the N.Z. Co-operative Herd-Testing Association. A Te Aroha cow is said to have established a world record for butterfat production. (From Our Own Correspondent .) HAMILTON, To-day. The New Zealand Co-operative Herd-Testing Association reports that the record test has been established by the Manawaru group, in Te Aroha district, for the 1926-27 season. There are 28 herds in the group, comprising 1581 cows, and the average shows 3171 b. of butterfat per cow in 258 days. Of the 1,582 cows tested 673 tested belof 3001 b. and 908 above that figure. This indicates that with a little more drastic culling the average yield per cow can be raised to 401 b. The objective of the Herd-Testing Association is to secure herds of coWs yielding 3001 b. of butterfat per season, and the Manawaru Group is the first group in Australasia to attain the goal. The highest herd average was that of 21 cows which in 277 days returned 402.541 - of fat per cow. The highest cow produced 593.761 b. of fat in 353 days.
