NORTHCOTE FIRE
FOUR-ROOMED COTTAGE
Fire broke out in a four-roomed cottage in Gladstone Road, Northcote, owned and occupied by Mr. Rov Clifford Sterling. The Northcote Volunteer Fire Brigade attended the outbreak and effected a very good save. At the time of the outbreak Mr. Sterling was the only person in the house. Mr. Sterling retired to bed at about 9 o’clock, leaving a small fire burning in the living-room for his wife. At about 9.45 he was awakened by the noise of the burning wood, to discover the room full of smoke and the flames corning through the wooden partition which separated the bedroom from the living-room. He has not the telephone on, so he had to drive his car down to the fire sation to sound the alarm. The Northcote brigade turned out and after a strenuous fight managed to get the outbreak under control. The building was insured for £SOO in the Atlas Insurance Office, and the contents for £l5O.
