HIS MAJESTY’S
“PADDY, THE NEXT BEST THING”
The Nellie Bramley Company found it easy to please an eager audience at His Majesty’s Theatre last evening with the presentaotion of the diverting Irish comedy, “Paddy, the Next Best Thing.” When its sentiment becomes tender enough to make even hard eyes leak a bit, it is Paddy herself who turns tears to laughter by observing philosophically that “snivelling won't help.” And that, indeed, is both the way and the delight of the play—laughter chasing tears like sunshine after showers on the heather and bog waters of Ireland. As Padeen, the girl who should have been a boy, Miss Bramley was the joyous spirit of the piece and the gaiety of her character carried all the company and the audience with her as merrily as a party riding in jaunting cars to the races. It is seldom that everybody gets enjoyment out of a show, and the fact that this is the experience of those who make the acquaintance of Paddy Adair and her friends should guarantee a fine success for the company. Every member of it plays well and the pleasure is continuous. The same comedy will be the best thing this evening.
