THE GRAND
“MARE NOSTRUM” An excellent programme is being shown at the Grand Theatre this week. "Mare Nostrum,” the featured film, has been skilfully adapted by Rex Ingram from the famous novel by Vicente Blasco Ibanez. The story moves slowly to a powerful climax in the carrying out of the sentence of execution upon the alluring Austrian spy, Freya, who goes to her death serene and smiling, clad in her “uniform” of costly furs and jewels. Then follows the oipedoing in a great storm of the steamship “Mare Nostrum,” closely linked with the captain’s vengeance upon the submarine which had robbed him of the life of his son. The picture is both moving and spectacular, and has been produced on a grand scale without sparing expense. The principal roles are taken by Alice Terry and Antonio Moreno, who play their parts with the j skill of accomplished actors.
