MOUNT EDEN COUNCIL

FIRE-ALARM SYSTEM IMPROVEMENT OF STREETS A meeting of the Mount Eden Borough Council was held last evening, the Mayor, Mr. E. H. Potter, presiding. Some lively discussion followed the tabling of Carter Brothers’ application for permission to erect a petrol pump in Stokes Road. Cr. Fraser: It is desirable to keep petrol pumps off the main streets. We vshould grant the application. Cr. Morrison: Petrol pumps on main streets cause congestion. They should be confined to side streets. The matter was referred back to the Works Committee. Cr. Joll, chairman of the Fire Brigade Committee, reported that the representative of the Duplex fire alarm system was in Auckland, and recommended that he be invited to an early meeting of the counted, when members could consider the advisability of installing that system in the borough. Building operations to the total v alue of £9,643 were sanctioned during the month of April. The foreman’s report showed that the tarring of many footpaths had been completed during the last six weeks, and that preparations were well in hand for the laying %>wn of several streets in bitumen.
