AT THE CHURCHES

SERVICES HELD YESTERDAY Holy Communion was celebrated at St. Matthew’s Church yesterday at 8 and 11 a.m. The preacher in the morning was Canon Grant Cowen. A sacred cantata, “The Ascension,” composed by Mr. J. H. Phillpot, the church organist, was given at a shortened ' evensong. The evening address was given by the curate, the Rev. Thomas South worth. The usual evangelistic service was held in the Methodist Central Mission last evening. The subject of the Rev. C. G. Scrimgeour’s address was “The Lure of the Impossible.” The Rev. A. B. Chappell, M.A., delivered an address at an outdoor service held before the principal service of the evening. The Rev. E. Nicholls spoke at both services held at the Ponsonby Baptist Church yesterday, his subject in the morning being “Looking Unto Jesus,” and in the evening “The Remedy for Restlessness.”
