LATE RACING

CONDITIONS AT ELLERS LIE SODDEN TRACKS HINDER TRAINING OPERATIONS

After a two-days’ storm, this morning broke very fine and conditions overhead were ideal at Ellersiie. But underfoot things were particularly bad. The heavy rain during the preceding day and night had scoured portion of the sand track and the ground staff was busy remedying it. Only the sand track was available this morning and there was no schooling of any sort, which must have been as disappointing to trainers ns to the spectators. There was some fast work indulged in. but actually it was a quiet morning, with very little doing. Cynthia N. was doing it better than Nucleus at the end of six furlongs, run in 1.22. the first three furlongs being left behind in 39 4-ssec. Rahepoto and Anchor were associated in a round, covering the last mile in 1.54 and the last four furlongs in 57 3-ssee.. the complete round being done in 2.8 1-5. Rahepoto pleased better than his companion. NORTHERN CANDIDATES Tuki and Fireblight, candidates for the Great Northern Steeplechase, and Fair Abbey w' rf given strong work over a couple of circuits, finishing over the final six furlongs in 1.31. Both Tuki and Fireblight look all the better for their racing at Wanganui. Alonsoa came home over four furlongs in 55 l-ssec., moving well. Town Guard was going easier than Cawnpore from the six furlong peg in 1.27 4-5. after covering the first quarter in 29 3-ssec. White Bird went six furlongs in company, and went freely to return 1.25, going fast for the first four, which were left behind in 54 l-ssec. Kara mu and Kendal did nicely to run six furlongs in 1.23 4-5. DID IT EASY Ahi Ngaro and Kyngzone jumped off from the six furlongs and after cutting out the first three in 3$ 4-sseo. came home in 1.23. with Kyngzone well clear of his companion and going well. Tall Timber had Lord Bruce as a mate once round in 2.10, covering the last six furlongs in 1.31. A large number of others were given strong work, without going for time. OPENING THE HILL It has been arranged by the racecourse manager. Mr. Albert Hill, that the hill will be open for schooling purposes on Monday morning, and that the hurdles will also be erected on the course proper. On Wednesday it is probable that the same arrangements for schooling will be made, but of- course it all depends on the weather. The course was very wet and heavy this morning, and while trainers were to be commiserated with upon having no grass tracks to gallop on. the weather made it imperative that they be conserved as much as possible in view of the galloping they will be subjected to next week. JOTTINGS Lupineel figures in the Hunt Club Cup, to bo decided on Saturday next, and will be ridden in that event by R. E. Thompson. Lupineel ran a fair race in the Egmont Steeplechase, but subsequently performed indifferently at Wanganui. It is understood that Mr. J. Morris will pilot Bronson in the Carbine Plate. Mr. J. V. Paten will most likely have the mount on Wyoming.
