STATE LOANS FOR TOWN DWELLERS
FARMERS PERTURBED (From Our Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, To-ay. “That this conference views with alarm the proportion of State advances made on non-productive security” was a remit carried at the Farmers’ Union Conference at Whangarei this wepk. A good deal of feeiing was expressed. Air. Duxfield said it had always been the custom of the Department to throw dust in the eyes of the people and facts we-, hard to ascertain. Nearly as much money was loaned on workers’ houses as on farm development, only 55 per cent, going to rural credits. This was entirely wrong. Mr. Feisst held that the easy manner in which people could obtain loans on city property was dragging peopl«2 away from the rural areas. Mr. Coates was prepared to go to extreme ends to catch the Labour votes.
