Cold Shoulder to Unemployed

“NO MEN WANTED” PROTEST TO CITY COUNCIL “I don’t like the tone of the letter at all;” said Cr. J. A. C. Allum, criticising a letter sent to last night’s meeting of the Auckland City Council by the Xew Zealand Natives’ Association, which protested against the fact that for the past three years a notice to the effect that ,no men were wanted had been exhibited at the Tramway Department’s office. In that time many men, principally immigrants, had been taken on. The tramways manager, reporting on the question, said any man could file an application for employment. They at present had two or three thousand applications, from which positions were filled in order of priority. A reply on the lines set out by the tramway manager is to be sent to the Natives* Association.
