County Chairmanship. —At the meeting of the Franklin County Council this afternoon Mr. H. Wilcox was re-elected chairman.

Emden Welcomed.— The German training cruiser Emden has arrived at Tokio. The vessel received an enthusiastic welcome.

German Newspaper in Australia.— A paper named “Die Australische Zeitung,” which will be the first newspaper to be published in the German language in South Australia since the war, will be issued for the first time on Tuesday at Tanunda.

Australia at the League. —The Prime Minister of Australia, Mr. Bruce, announces that Sir G. F. Pearce, VicePresident of the Executive Council, w’ill be the senior Australian representative at the next meeting of tlie League of Nations at Geneva.

Theft at Epsom. —On Monday evening, it is reported, a burglar broke into a house at 12 Clive Road, Epsom, and stole a purse containing £lO. It is said that the purse belonged to a young woman and that the money it contained had been paid to her for wages. She was only out of the room for about ten minutes when the theft occurred.

Cause of Harbour Collision. —The failure of the engines to go astern when required was stated to be the cause of the harbour collision between the s.s. Baron Ruthven and the hulk Gladbrook on May 7, in reports received by the Auckland Harbour Board yesterday. The harbourmaster declared that the pilot,'Captain Beg wick, was in no way to biame. Y
