AMATEUR ATHLETICS

CROSS-COUNTRY CONTESTS Press Association. WELLINGTON, Tuesday, The council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association has advised the Wellington Centre that its policy regarding representation at the crosscountry championships of Australia and New Zealand at Adelaide on August 6 was declared at the last cosference of centres, namely, that the council could not finance such a venture. If the tour is to proceed it would require to be financed by the centres, the cost being approximately £6O per man. The opinion in athletic circles in Wellington is that if a team is to go forward centres will require to act promptly, otherwise the date set down for decision of the New Zealand crosscountry championships at Christchurch July 2, would require to be set back.
