Captain Hammond, general manager the Northern Steam Ship Company, is visiting Russell and the Northern ports. The Archbishop o i New Zealand, Dr. Averill who usually attends the King’s Birthday service at St. Matthew’s, will he unable to do so this year owing to a previous engagement for Sunday, June 5. Air. J- Tattersfield returned to Auckland this morning by the Maunganui from Sydney. Mr. S. Thorne George, who has been on a health trip, returned by the Maunganui this morning. The Rev. Mr. Brading, of London, arrived by the Maunganui this morning, and is staying with Mr. H. M. Smeeton, Kemuera. Mr. G. L. Taylor, president of the New Zealand Dental Association, returned from Wellington by motor-car yesterday afternoon. Mr. L. D. Scott, of London, who is accompanied by his sister, has arrived in New Zealand, and while in Auckland is staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr. W. A. Patterson, of Wellington, who has been on a trip to England, returned by the Niagara yesterday and is staying at the Star Hotel. The Hon. Sir AVilliam Hall-Janes, K.C.M.G., M.L.C., and Lady Hall-Jones, l«*a.ve to-day for Russell, where they will spend a pre-sessional holiday. Among the passengers that arrived by the Niagara yesterday was Mr. P. Cropper, who has been on a six months’ business trip to England. Mr. James Drummond, M.A., headmaster of the Auckland Grammar School, has not yet sufficiently recuperated to resume his duties, and the llrst assistant, Mr. H. D. Mahon, continues in charge.
