THE CHILDREN’S OWN
The first of “Children’s Own” special picture matinees arranged by the Ful-ler-Hayward directors was held at the Strand Theatre on Saturday morning. Judging by the enthusiasm shown at the first matinee, the innovation will prove immensely popular. The star feature of the programme was “The Lighthouse by the Sea,” in which the wonderful dog, Rin-tin-tin, takes a leading part. Some of the scenes were so intensely thrilling that the excitement of the children found vent in a furore of shrieks and clapping. The programme included five minutes’ community singing, led by Mr. A. McElwain, and a charming dance item, “Hickory-Dickory-Dock,” by several of Valeska’s clever little pupils. The supporting pictures were a Pathe gazette, a “Felix” cartoon, and an interesting study of railway locomotion, in various parts of the world.
