FIGHT FOR HANKOW

NORTHERN ADVANCE DOUBLE-SIDED ATTACK By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Received 12.45 p.m. SHANGHAI. Friday. The Nationalist troops are strenuously resisting the Northern advance on Hankow. The latter are reorganising for a tinal thrust. The Northern allies are advancing on Wuchang from the south, and will sandwich Hankow in by a doublesided attack. Gains in Northern Kaingsu are reported, including the capture of Shantung and several battalions of Shantungese troops. The Northern fleet has returned to Tsing-tao, temporarily removing the possibility of a naval battle. Five hundred additional United States marines, with tanks and artillery, have arrived from the Philippines.—A. and N.Z.
