SCOTSMEN GO HOME

TO BRING OUT OTHERS AN AUSTRALIAN SCHEME A party of 400 Scotsmen is being or • ganised by the New Settlers’ League for a journey to Scotland. The men being recruited for this party are all expected to be those who have gone to Australia from Great Britain in recent times, and, having prospered are willing to make a voyage to their native land to tell their countrymen about the great opportunities awaiting migrants in Australia. Although this movement originated in Australia, it is understood that something of the same kind has been in practice for some years in South Africa. There, it is a common practice for parties of colonial farmers to visit Great Britain and disseminate knowledge of South Africa and its possibilities, and at the same time study farming methods. On the other hand, special parties of British farmers return the compliment by touring South Africa at regular intervals. Parties from the United States of America also make frequent tours of Europe, following the same procedure. The 400 men who leave Australia will pay their own passages and will undertake to make a systematic tour of farms in the northern part of Great Britain, and endeavour to bring back at least 400 farmers for settlement in Australia. It is expected that a vessel of the Commonwealth line will be chartered for the trip, and will be use! as headquarters for the party during its stay in Great Britain. The proposal has been submitted to the Development and Migration Commission, which is expected to give its approval.
