limber Garrett), Karamu /t Av} lve)l Lord Bruce and Blue Sky (J. Sharkey) were set to accomplish a like task. Blue Sky was very careful and jumped slow, being soon in the rear. Tall Timber was the better mover and finished several lengths ahead of Karamu and Lord Bruce. Slump (R. Olive), Rahepoto (B. 1 rice), and Kamehameha (S. Henderson) were associated in a like bout, hlump gave the best display and easily accounted for the other pair. Ruhepoto’s effort was his best to date and L- Brice did not allow him to shirk with the result that although he did not clear the battens brilliantly he gained many friends. Kamehameha was inclined to run down his fences. Scott Free (Hastings) was sent over the battens alone, jumping the last well though he made a mistake at the third. His effort was a fair one. • THE ’CHASERS
Beginning at the brush fence by the mile post, Passionate (B. Price) and Waiau Lad (C. Scott) set out for a journey over the steeplechase course. They negotiated the hurdle by the six furlong post well, but Passionate made a faulty jump at the next. The first fence on the hill saw Passionate baulk, while Waiau Lad lost his rider to be remounted and complete his task after jumping tm; stone wall. Passionate could not be persuaded to negotiate the fence and was not further persevered with. Commencing at the «od wall on the flat, Glenotus (E. Rae), Glenlight (J. Sharkey), Te Tahi (E. Garrett) and Simplicitas (R. Anderson) began their schooling lesson. Te Tahi ran down the first obstacle and very near fell, while Simplicitas baulked at the second fence of the double and unseated his rider. Te Tahi pulled up at the stone wall, leaving Glenlight and Glenotus to carry on and they both gave a good display throughout their trip over the steeplechase course which was completed at . the stonewall the second time round. The display 'of Glenlight was a good one for ‘ the ’chaser stuck to Glenotus throughout and save for a slight mistake at the second fence of the double, gained numerous admirers with the way the big fences were cleared.
