BUYS FROM GERMANY

A VANCOUVER ORDER A REBUKE FOR BRITAIN The City of Vancouver is buying from Germany for the first time in 14 years. With only three aldermen dissenting, the city council has accepted a tender for 51 water valves from a Berlin firm for £1,498. Aiderman Macinnes, a Labour representative, said he would have voted against acceptance of the German offer had the rival firms been Canadian, but he could not see any reason for throwing away more than £ 600 in order to accept a British tender when Britain set the example of buying Argentine beef for her troops because the price was lower than the Australian.
