Death of Sabatini’s Son

A verdict that death was due to a fracture of the base of the skull through being thrown out of a motorcar, there being nothing to show how this occurred, was returned at the inquest on Raphael Angelo Sabatini, aged 18, son of Mr. Raphael Sabatini, the novelist, who was killed while motoring with his mother at Llandago, in the Wye Valley. James Francis, of Newport, Monmouthshire, said Mr. Sabatini’s car passed his at 45 miles an hour. A quarter of a mile further on he found the motor in the hedge. Reginald Watkins, of Llandago, said he saw the motor skid, and its two occupants thrown out. Mrs. Sabatini exclaimed to him: “Look after my dear son first.”
