MEETING OF UNION A PLAYER CAUTIONED At a meeting of the management committee of the Auckland Rugby Union held last evening a player who had been ordered off the field for illegally tackling a player was severely cautioned. The chairman (Mr. H. Frost) said that the committee considered the referee had acted quite rightly in putting the player off, and they were determined to put down happenings of this sort in Rugby. The Hawke’s Bay and Otago Rugby Unions wrote confirming August 27 and September 10 respectively as the dates of representative matches in Auckland. Other representative dates fixed by the New Zealand Union were approved. It was decided to play the Thames representatives, at Auckland, on June 18, and to postpone senior matches on that date. Applications from Te Kauwhata and Ngaruawahia schools for footballs were granted. It was decided to forward the letters to the New Zealand Rugby Union, and to advise that body that in future the Auckland Rugby Union, without a more generous grant, would be unable to shoulder the responsibilities of other major unions. The following reinstatements were recommended to the New Zealand Rugby Union for approval:—W. J. Dean, H. Lipscombe and I. F'. G. Callender. Mr. W. B. Walker appeared with Lipscombe and Callender, and said he wished to contradict statements that pressure was being brought to bear on tramwaymen to play the Rugby game. All applications came voluntarily from the men. It was decided that in future the Union should enforce the rule regarding clubs supplying team lists to the referee. The New Zealand Rugby Union advised that the following reinstatements had been approved:—S. G. Ball. R. H. Williamson, W. Lorrigan, E. R. Lloyd, A. Murdock, W. Eglinton, D. G. Knight, G. J. H. Traill. P. Heath and H. Oakley. The application of C. Keane, Helensville, to play in Auckland was granted, providing the New Zealand Rugby Union approved. It was resolved that as many members of the committee as possible should attend the civic reception to the Canadian Association football team on Monday. The application of the College Rifles Club to play K. O. Potter, Warkwortli, in the junior grade, was approved. With regard to the curtailment of time in matches at Eden Park, it was decided that in the event of one or both-teams being present at 1.45 p.m., full *O-minute spells should we played: failing teams being present, spells of 15 minutes should be played.
