PUKEKOHE BOROUGH
MEETING OF COUNCIL PUKEKOHE, To-day. The Pukekolie Borough Council met on Monday evening, the Mayor, Mr. John Routly, presiding. The mayor was appointed to represent the council on the Advisorv Committee of the No. 2 District Highway Board. Residents of Hall Street requested that footpaths of a width of 15ft., with a 6ft. strip of asphalt, be formed in their street. They offered to contrib ute toward the cost of the work and to plant trees provided the request waacceded to. —It was decided to ascer tain the cost, and the amount the re sidents were prepared to contribute Consideration of the Town Planninr Act was deferred until July 6, when the director of town planning is t visit Pukekohe.
In connection with the represent: tions of the Buckland Welfare Leagu to complete the metalling of Statio Road, a route giving access to a por tion of Buckland, the council resolved to obtain an estimate of the cost n; such work.
Por the purpose of bringing pressure to bear on the Main Highways Board to obtain a subsidy on constructional works on main highways passing through boroughs the mayor was appointed to represent the council at a conference of members of Parliament and local body representatives to be held at Wellington prior to the next session.
The appointment of Mr. J. B. Brown as building inspector was approved. Mr. G. T. Parvin was elected a member of the Works Committee. The proposed installation of water mains in Carlton Road, Wellington Princess and Victoria Streets was ferred pending a report from Mr. T T Hugo, fire inspector. Instructions were issued to the Sanitary Committee to report upon the improvement of the existing sanitary system.
In connection with a former application to the Government for a grant toward the purchase of Roose’s Bush, a scenic reserve which is considered locally to be the finest between Auckland and Hamilton, it was decided to renew the representations. The council agreed to request the Auckland Education Board to arrange an excursion of school children to visit the bush during the summer vacation. The council considered a bacteriological examination of the borough water supply indicating that bacilli coli were present in 100 cubic centimetres as satisfactory.
The c'ounci l decided to subscribe to THE SUN for use in the reading room.
