MAORI LAND.—The mine manager rtports for the week ending & 14: —The drive on the Maoriland lod was advanced 10ft, making tk* total to date 20ft. The pearance of this face has improved somewhat during the week, although it is m yet all that could be desired. On Frida we started to put in a crosscut outward from the North Pass in No. 4 levr with the view of intercepting the abov lode. KUARANUI. Reporting for the week ending May 14, the manager states: The cleaning out o: the old Battery Level has bee:, extended 70ft, a total of 3JI! from the surface. The level up to t point is in good order with new thnbr where required and line laid. The lev/, for the next 100 ft is open, but «-equire some new timber and cleaning up, line laying, etc. Drive east on Barry’s Ree: has been extended sft, a total of 120 f: The reef here averages 2ft wide and sti looks very well, carrying nice torigh: mineral and silica, and the country roc. is still of a splendid class on both walk being interlaced with quartz stringer and mineral veins. Alburnia.—The drive going north h' been continued, the distance driven : the week being seven feet, making total distance of 1,616 ft. from the entrance. The leader, which is maintaining its size, is enclqsed in a splendid class c country rock, and at each breaking-do*: has shown good blotches of gold. Tb western crosscut has been extended further 12ft., making a distance of lwt from the main level. The country continues to be of a hard nature. Stopnf over the intermediate level has been in hand. The reef here is about loin, vwidth, and while breaking down to-®: (Saturday) we selected a little ®ton< showing stronger gold than any we previously obtained. The reef looks promising overhead, and we are expecting better values as work advances.
