PRINCESS AND TIVOLI
“THE CANADIAN PIONEER” A story of life on the great wheatfields of Canada, "The Canadian Pioneer,” Thomas Meighan’s latest Paramount production, which wili be the chief attraction on the programme to be screened at the Princess and Tivoli Theatres for the first time on Thursday, pays great tribute to the men and women workers in the wheat fields, pioneers in the building of a new empire Meighan enacts the role of a wheat harvester who works for his friend. Wyndliam Standing, in an
effort to return to his own fields. While living with Standing, he meets the latter's sister, a young English woman just arrived in the provinces after having lost all her money. The girl marries the Canadian, who takes her to his cabin, situated in the centre of a vast wilderness of wheat. The Canadian’s struggle for a living, and the vast underlying drama in which he tries to break down the resistance of his cultured wife, help to build up toward the picture’s dramatic climax In "The Canadian Pioneer,” Meighan is stated to have achieved the greatest success of his career. "The Blue Streak.” in which Richard Talmadge enacts the principal role, is the second feature. The usual supporting films will be shown at both theatres.
