NOT KEEN ON STUDY DISAPPOINTING RESULTS EXAMINER’S CAUSTIC COMMENT the junior nurses at the Auckland Hospital take their profession seriously, as far as examinations are concerned? Dr. Robert Bedford, who for some years has acted as an examiner, made some rather caustic remarks in a report to the board last night. Commenting on the nurses in the first year of their training who sat for examination. Dr. Bedford said: "As a whole, the result was disappointing.’ With the exception of the first six nurses he was of opinion that “they showed little evidence of realising their ‘responsibilities in the matter of systematic study.” The examiners, he said, recommended in this class that six nurses who failed to gain 50 per cent, should be “deferred” for six months. on f . nurse only gained 30 per cent. Twelve candidates in the second year of their training passed with credit. “The remainder were disappointing, and five nurses who failed to gain the necessary percentage of marks are deferred for six months, it was reported. The senior nurses showed considerably more evidence of application with their studies. All the candidates in their third year who sa passed the examination for hospital diplomas.
