ROSKILL DISTRICT
ELECTORAL CHANGES LIKELY Last evening, at the first meeting of the new Mount Roskill Road Board, the chairman, Mr. K. F. Jones, in tendering a hearty welcome to the unusually large number of ratepayers and others assembled, introduced Mr. TV. J. Jordan, M.P. for Manukau. and Mr. W. C. Coldicutt, Mayor of Onehungra. Honoured by the presence of such public representatives, he felt that an interchange of visits among surrounding local bodies would have desirable beneficial effects in each district concerned.
With congratulations in various directions, Mr. Jordan said it was customary for him to pay a visit to all similar public bodies in his electorate, and proffer advice or assistance in anything relevant to his position as a member of Parliament. In such a rapidly-develop ng area as Mount Roskill. the responsibilities of the Road Board member?; were ever-increasing. However, they had a better time of it than members of Parliament, who were ever subjected to open criticism. But perhaps the latter hud more privileges. With the new Boundaries Commission now sitting the situation of Mount Roskill in the near future was very indefinite. Possibly the district would be taken out of the Manukau electorate; but, even then, he hoped to be of some service to them later on, as in the past. (Applause.) ,
