NATIVES’ ASSOCIATION
The New Zealand Natives’ Association opened its social season on Saturday evening last. The entertainment took the form of a social and dance, items being contributed by Misses Crook and O’Rourke and Messrs. Hall Skelton, Cook and Cassrels. After supper Mr. Hall Skelton in a brief address outlined the aims and objects of the association, stressing the fact that the association was not, as many supposed, inimical to immigrants, but it was opposed to the present system of immigration, by which the country was being flooded by a tide of newcomers, with consequences detrimental to both New Zealanders and newcomers.
