WANTS CLEARANCE
LEAGUE FOOTBALLER CITY CLUB APPROACHED THE LOU BROWN CASE Considerable interest has been aroused in sporting circles just lately by the application made by Lou Brown, the New Zealand and Auckland rep., for a clearance from the ‘■ode in Auckland. The fact is that Lou has a weakness to troop to England and play for the Wigan Club. When the Auckland League received the application they could do no more than act in accordance with the rules governing transfers, and that was to refer the matter to the City Club, of which Brown is a member. The Gity Club has met and a direct application from Lou Brown was discussed. Mr. W. J. Hammill, chairman of the Management Committee of the Auckland League, was present, and drew the club’s attention to the hard fight Australia had made to prevent the best of its players from accepting tempting offers to join English clubs. It is evident that if Brown is successful in getting clearance it is a moral that there are many other players of the 13-a-r Side code who would take the same course and are only awaiting developments. However, the City Club could not decide and they have deferred the matter for one week, when Brown will be asked to appear before the senior members of his club, who will make an attempt to give a final decision.
