A MIDNIGHT “SPOT”
SEQUEL IN POLICE COURT TORN COAT COST £4 Benjamin Thompson is probably a well-meaning soul, but his good intentions led him into trouble last night. He came home to his lodgings in Ligar Place at a late hour, full of the spirit of goodwill, awakened his roommate, Alex Paton, and offered him a "spot.” Paton wasn't keen about it, and putting on his overcoat prepared to seek repose. Thompson, apparently resenting the way Paton had reecived his proffered hospitality, grabbed him by the coat and a scuffle ensued. Result —a torn coat, and Thompson deposited out in the cold, unsympathetic street, where he was subsequently found by Constable Bowman. In the Police Court this morning, Thompson, who is 34, found himself poorer by a night's sleep, and £4 2s 3d—a 10s fine, £3 damage to the coat, 2s 3d taxi fare, and 10s witnesses' expenses.
