PREFERENCE FOR BRITAIN HOPE OF A CUSTOMS UNION By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyrifto LONDON, Thursday. The Premier of Queensland, Mr. Vb McCormack, was a guest at the- annual luncheon of the Empire Parliamentary Association. The Secretary of State for the Dominions, Mr. L. S. Air.ery, who presided, said he hoped Mr. McCormack would obtain a loan in Britain on favourable terms. Mr. McCormack said it was essentia! that Britain should provide ch«P money to assist the Dominions in developing trade and migration. Britain would, within a few years, be faced with the problem of forming * customs union with the Dominions or of associating with Europe, wtnen would result in the Dominions raising their tariffs against the older countries Mr. McCormack said t.e personally hoped for an Empire customs which would enable Australia, with in assistance of British money, to g, her manufactures without even Brit** competition, and by buying iro Britain the goods she was unable make economically. t The United States, with rao ° ey " burn, which was made from the and out of Britain’s misfortunes, w anxious to lend to Australia. . .
