ELECTRIC TROLLEY BUSES NORTH SHORE TRANSPORT Ferry Company Considers Threr Systems THREE new systems of land transportation are now being investigated by the Devonport Steam Ferrv Cov Ltd., for North Shore. ’’ The statement that the company is definitely committed to the purchase of a fleet of electric trolley-buses, the same as those supplied to the Ipswich Council in England, is not confirmed by the company's manager (Mr A E. Alison). *
Mr. Alison informed THE SUN today that data was merely being obtained for the consideration of his directors.
There is little doubt, however, that an important development is being planned for the land transport of trans-harbour residents. Mr. Alison declared that the tramway lines owned by the Takapuna Tramways and Ferry Coy., Ltd., would not interfere with the new system, should the company decide to instal it. As for the “Gap” on the Devon-port-Takapuna road, he said, it would not prove a hindrance to the company’s buses, as he believed it was the intention of the Borough Council to concrete this strip in conformity with the rest of the road. “There
should be no difficulty in that connection,” said Mr. Alison.
That it was the company’s intention to purchase additional ferry steamers in view of the expansion of their business, was denied by Mr. Alison. “Not at the present stage at any rate,” he said. “As far As we can see we have enough steamers for the time being.” The reason for the rumour that the company had been committed to the electric trolley buses, said Mr. Alison, was probably because of the fact that information had been sought from the Power Board In connection with the terms of a possible contract, should the company make this decision. No authoritative statement had been issued by the company. At the present stage only data was being obtained.
