AN EX-NEW ZEALANDER IN AUSTRALIA

Miss Chrichton Imrie, who was well known to Australians and. New Zealanders in London as the proprietress of the Black Swan Tea Rooms, Savoy House, Strand, and as an indefatigable worker for the sale of Empire products in England, has had a remarkable reception in Western Australia, which she is now visiting, having travelled via Egypt, where she spent a couple of months.

In Perth Miss Imrie was invited to open the annual conference of the Dried Fruits Association, and was the first woman to address it. Miss Imrie further was invited to lecture to the farmers and their womenfolk on honey, in the wild flower district, in the centre

of which 1,500 hives are to be established. The Housewives’ Association gave a reception in Miss Imrie’s honour. She was also entertained by the Mayoress of Perth and by Lady Campion at Government House, while the women journalists of Perth have invited her to an “At Home.” She was also a guest of honour at the official opening of the new Green Room Club, and at a dinner given by the New Zealand residents. On arrival the ladies had to costume themselves in black wigs and Maori mats. There was a wonderful New Zealand menu, including “geyser strawberries”—rather fearsome things, touched up with some chemical which made them spurt forth strawberry juice and flame when a lightened taper was passed over them.
