GO TO BUY SWEETS SHOPKEEPER FINED £5 “Hear the pennies dropping Listen while they fall . . runs the children’s Sunday School song; but according to what was said in the Police Court this morning the kiddies’ pennies don’t all drop into the collection plate. William Wason, who keeps tearooms in Upper Queen Street, was charged with Sunday trading, and Senior-Sergeant Edwards told what he knew of the Sunday School pennies. ••This is a very bad case,” he said. “He has been selling chocolates to children who have been given pennies to go to Sunday School. He’s been warned about it, but has apparently taken no notice. When the constable saw him about it. he said that he’d been ‘expecting this for a long time.’ ”
Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.. fined him the maximum— £s, with 16s costs.
Richard Murphy, a Newmarket shopkeeper, charged with rhe same offence, was let off with a £ 2 fine and 13s costs.
