GAME IN AUCKLAND

THIS WEEK’S BUSINESS NEW RULE DISCUSSED At last night’s meeting of the Auckland Rugby League, a lettei:* was received from the New Zealand Council asking the reasons for the playing of Alenzies, a South Auckland player, in the “Auckland All Blacks,” in the match against an Auckland rep. team last Saturday week. The chairman, Air. Hammill, said that owing to Brisbane having suffered injuries, there were only 12 New Zealand rep. players left in Auckland and it was found necessary to obtain the services of Alenzies. Mr. Hammill said the Advisory Board had previously discussed the matter, and it was decided to reply in the terms suggested by the committee. A grant of £8 was made to the New Lynn club for the upkeep of their playing ground. Application by N. E. King, for reinstatement to League was approved of. The transfer of C. Dufty from Athletic Seniors to Newton was approved of. The ordering off the field last Saturday of E. McLaughlan, a senior player, for attempting to strike another player was dealt with, the advisory committee being of the opinion that sufficient punishment had been meted out to the player in question, inasmuch that he was ordered off early in the game. Application from the Newton Club for the lifting of the suspension of E. Palson was approved of.

A complaint was received from the Referees’ Association concerning the encroachment of spectators on the ground at Victoria Park last; Saturday, during the playing of a Senior B grade game. It was decided in future to send League officials to Victoria Park to give referees every assistance.

On the Referees’ Association’s recommendation, it was decided to circularise the various clubs explaining the new play the ball rule, as it was stated that referees had much trouble in enforcing the rule last Saturday.

A cheque of £43 was received from a League enthusiast, half of the amount to be divided among the “All Black” representatives of the Alarist Old Boys’ Club, who secured any dropkicks on the English tour, while the other half was to be spent on furthering the interests of primary school football.
