English Inducements — Brown Seeks Transfer
The loss of two of Auckland’s most brilliant League players was foreshadowed at last night's meeting of the management committee of the Auckland Rugby League, when L. Brown, of the City Club, applied for a transf€;r to the Wigan Club, England. When the application came up the chairman (Air. W. J. Hammill) expressed the opinion that the City Club should be consulted.
It was also mentioned that B. Davidson and A. Mason had been offered £BOO a. year to play for English clubs, and that these players also contemplated going to England if clearances were granted.
Air. W. J. Davidson, the City Club’s delegate, said that his club would not stand in the way of the tw*o players from the City Club.
Mr. T. Fielding said the club would have to be well compensated for the loss it would sustain if the clearance was granted, and it was for the City Club to give its consent.
After further discussion it was decided that the chairman, Air. Hammill, and the secretary, Mr. Culpa.n, should wait on the City Club and report to next meeting.
