ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY

ANNUAL MEETING HELD

The annual meeting of the astronomical section of the Auckland Institute was held last evening. The president, Professor P. W. Burbidge, occupied the chair. The report disclosed a total membership of 65. Six well-attended meetings were held during the year, at which lectures were given or papers read. The observatory had been open on fine Tuesday evenings, and many people had taken advantage" of the opportunity to observe the heavens. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £26 18s 6d, and assets valued at £6O 8s 6d. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follow: —Patron, the mayor, Mr. George Baildon; president, Professor P. W. Burbidge; vice-presi-dent, Mr. A. G. Lunn; committee, Messrs. N. H. Good. Artha, G. Knight and J. Mack; lion. secretary and treasurer, Air. E. G. Jones; lion, auditor, Professor JI. W. Segar: hon. curator of instruments, Professor P. W. Burbidge.
