SOVIET REMEDY
GENEVA ADVOCATE CLASS STRUGGLE ESSENTIAL RUSSIAN SPEAKS OUT By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Reed. 9.50 a.m. GENEVA, Tuesday. A mild sensation was caused at the Economic Conference by the speech of M. Lepser president of the Soviet Metal Workers.’ Union.
He spoke in Russian, which had not hitherto been heard at the League of Nations. He urged the necessity for increasing the wages of workers and regretted that so far there had been no allusion to that point by the bourgeoise, who constantly appealed to the workers for co-operation. Yet the hours of labour in capitalistic countries exceeded eight hours a day, while wages were reduced.
He advocated the Soviet remedy of improving the lot of workers, declaring that such improvement was only attainable by a class struggle. The speech was afterwards translated into English and French, and created an unfavourable impression A. and N.Z.—Sun.
