TALKING OF WASHING DAY
Here is a device to do away with the strain of lifting heavy clothes from the copper with the old-fashioned sticks. Make a cheese-cloth bag to fit the copper, and set it securely round a mosquito net hoop, the size of the copper top. Fasten a rope across the top of the hoop with a loop in the middle, leaving it slack like a bucket handle. On washing day, place the clothes in the bag to boil, and small articles will not get left in the copper. The bag is easily lifted from the water to drain before rinsing, by means of a small pulley secured to the ceiling above the copper with a length of rope dangling. On the end of this rope fix an ordinary clip or hook to fasten into the loop of rope on the copper bag.
