FIFTY-TWO ROOMS
WHERE DUKE STAYED The Duke and Duchess of York and a party of 12 stayed at Mona Vale, Ross, Tasmania, the beautiful home of the late William Archer Kermode, who was well known for many years as one of the wealthiest sheepbreeders in Tasmania. This home has always been a special visiting - place for the Governor, as the shooting and fishing in this district is particularly good. When the Duke of Edinburgh was out he- stayed at Mona Vale, and the room in which he slept has live windows, just above the verandah, and contains the bed in which he slept, and on which is elaborately carved his coat-of-arms. The house contains a room for every week of the year (52), and it is said that there are 365 windows.
Breakfast is a cheery affair if served on a verandah, balcony or sun-room. For cold weather, put the table beside a sunny window, overlooking garden or harbour. On wet, dreary mornings, move it away from the window to the middle of a cosy, bright room.
Back plastering the walls of a house between the studding may prevent the in-leakage of cold air to a considerable extent, but if these spaces communicate with the cellar at the bottom and the attic at the top they form active flues for carrying away the heat which passes into them through leakage and transmission from the outside of the building.
