WHANGAREI HOSPITAL
MEETING OF BOARD (From Our Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, To-day. The Whangarei Hospital Board met yesterday afternon, Mr. T. Ellis presiding over a full attendance. The chairman extended a welcome to the new board members, and especially welcomed Mrs. V. Donaldson as being the first lady member on the board. A request from Dr. Rule to increase his car allowance to 2s 6d per mile was declined. It was decided to increase the salary of the doctor at Hikurangi by £SO. The secretary reported that the general account was £2,737 19s 8d in credit. . Mr. Murdoch said it had come to his knowledge that some people obtaining relief were in the habit of ordering tinned meats and fish, and he questioned whether this was economical. Mrs. Donaldson thought more benefit could be obtained from the expenditure of a shilling on good gravy beef than upon tinned food. —It was decided that tinned meat or fish be not included in stores provided by way of relief. It was decided to call tenders for a supply of new blankets. Nurse Wright, masseuse, tendered ary was not commensurate with the reher resignation, stating that' her salsponsibilitv and work entailed. The superintendent was of the opinion that the masseuse had been well treated, as there had been two increases of £lO in the salarv since she was appointed from among 120 candidates for the position. Mrs. Donaldson was appointed a member of the house committee, vice Mr. Simpson.
