MAYORAL HOSPITALITY
SOCIAL AT AVONDALE The Mayor and Mayoress (Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Tiarks) gave a most successful evening to about 150 guests in the Avondale Town Hall last night. Old-time dances were greatly enjoyed, the floor was in good order, and the music supplied by Connon’s Orchestra all that could be desired. The star items of the evening were songs given by Miss Laura Walker, accompanied by Miss Lilian Quinn, these artists being three times recalled. Monologue and recitations given by Miss Alice Kealy were so pleasing that encores were insistent. The catering was capably carried out by Miss Aickinhead, of Auckland, ana highly appreciated. The Mayor thanked all present for their kindness and co-operation and the singing of “Auli Lang Syne” brought a most memorable evening to a close at 12 p.m. The hall was beautifully decorated with flowers and tree ferns kindly donated by Mr. Uffinaell, of Avondale South.
