Long-Term Convicts Make Daring Escape From Gaol
SENSATIONAL BELFAST AFFAIR By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright BELFAST, Monday. A sensational escape was made at daybreak from Belfast Prison by three life-sentence men, convicted of murder, and one serving a 12-year sentence for attempted murder. It appears the escape was cleverly planned inside and outside. About lour in the morning a motor-car entered the gardens of a convent adjoining. At a given signal the four convicts, who it is stated were occupying one cell, rushed the corridor, seized the warders, gagged and trussed them, and took their revolvers and keys, with which the convicts entered the outer yard, scaled the wall, and entered the car, which drove at more than a mile a minute towards the Free State border, 50 miles away.
