Norwich Union Life Progress.—New business aggregating £ 9,114,785, as against £9,063,314 for 1925 is recorded in the annual report of the Norwich Union Life Insurance Society. The income for the year was £4,647,344 and the outgoings £2,487,267. Further Quest for Gold.—The announcement of the intention to float a company to acquire the famous Hartley and Kiley dredging rights in the Molyneux River should prove of interest to investors in mining stocks throughout the Dominion. Stvled the Hartley and Riley Consolidated Cxold Dredging Co., Ltd., the new company will require a capital of £75,000, £50,000 of which will be absorbed in the purchase of a dredge The claim to be exploited iies below the junction of the Clutha and Kawarau Rivers.
London Hemp Values. —Values for Manila hemp on the London market are firmer, advises the Department of Agriculture under date May 7. “J” grade, May-July shipments,‘are quoted sellers £4l. Sisal: Better demand for afloat and business has been done at £3B for No. 1. July-September shipment sold at £37 10s. The New Zealand market is quiet. Buyers here have paid New Zealand sellers during this week £34 for fair. No business had been done in high-points, but nominal value is £35.
